TikTok LIVE Ad Character Limits

LIVE ads promote ongoing streams. The stream title caps at 50 characters and shows above the LIVE badge.

TikTok LIVE Ads promote ongoing live streams from a TikTok creator or TikTok Shop seller. The ad inherits In-Feed clamps for the video preview (2,200-character caption, ~100 visible). The differentiator is the LIVE chrome: a "LIVE" badge above the username and a 50-character stream title that displays prominently.

The 50-character stream title is the whole reason a viewer taps the ad. It must clearly say what's happening in the stream right now. "Live now: 30% off summer dresses, ends midnight" is 51 characters and just clips. "Live: 30% off summer dresses tonight" fits comfortably and reads cleaner.

LIVE Ads only run while the stream is actually live. When the stream ends, the ad stops serving. This makes scheduling tighter than typical ads — every minute of paid LIVE inventory should match a minute of streaming.

Live-mode planning

Synchronize ad spend with stream schedule. Don't run LIVE Ads outside of broadcast windows. The 50-character title needs urgency — "now," "tonight," "ends at" — or the format under-performs.

FAQ

Are LIVE Ads available worldwide?
Available in most TikTok markets, with restrictions in some regions where LIVE shopping is regulated.
Can I schedule LIVE Ads for streams that haven't started?
Yes, but the ad won't serve until the stream is actually live. Pre-scheduling reserves the ad slot.
How long can a LIVE stream run?
Up to 4 hours per stream on standard accounts; longer for verified shops.
Does the 50-character stream title count toward the caption limit?
No — the stream title is a separate field with its own clamp. The caption clamp applies independently.
