2026 brought meaningful spec drift across Meta and TikTok. The hard maximums on most fields stayed put, but visible-window behavior tightened on Reels surfaces, expanded on TikTok Shop Ads, and shifted on Marketplace. Here's the running list of what we've verified changed.

Meta tightened the visible window on Facebook Reels and Instagram Reels primary text from ~80 characters to a cleaner 72. The soft warning is now 60 characters. This was a silent change in February 2026 — the documentation didn't update for several weeks. Brands running Reels-first creative felt the effect immediately.

TikTok expanded Shop Ads to several additional regions and clarified that product titles always truncate at exactly 34 characters in the pinned card. Previously the truncation was dynamic and varied by device width. The new behavior is consistent and easier to plan for.

Marketplace adjusted the description-field truncation to be slightly more aggressive — 30 characters where the previous behavior allowed 35–40 in some markets. This brought Marketplace into line with Feed.
